The Zimmermann SS23 Show Made Me Cry

This runway was the word ‘beautiful’ in physical form. Zimmermann never misses, and this year was no exception. The airy collection brought resort attire to city life through a melding of dainty fabrics with structured silhouettes. The show brought up emotions of warmth and longing for the summertime, heightened by a fascination for this house’s design, which literally brought me to tears.

The collection features a number of classic designs, reimagined through lace, denim and organza. Zimmermann redefines the use of trains, softens the look of a low-rise skirt, and brings volume to the runway with tiered appliques. A few of my favorites can be found below:

  • Look 3 / 50

The runway begins with a color pop, heavily inspired by retro-beach attire and vacation accessories. The ballooned top brings volume to the piece, while the exposed middle recenters the structure.

  • Look 9 / 50

This dress pays homage to the classic Zimmermann silhouette that we have seen grace the runways in collections passed.

  • Look 11 / 50

Flamenco-inspired ruffles bring movement to the look, and the fabric choice allows the dress to dance with the model as it walks down the runway. The choice of the double-purse ensemble perfectly styles this eye-catching piece.

  • Look 14 / 50

Zimmermann redefines the pantless look through business-casual features. The more attention we give to this piece, the more we find. Structured composition of the hot pants brings class to an otherwise risky article, while a lace train runs from the classic button-down top.

  • Look 33 / 50

In this lavender dream-fit, long trains, mini shells and mini skirts perfectly coexist. The tailored fit for the skirt brings structure to the look in a soft way, while the addition of trailing shell-strings allows the look to literally swim down the runway.

  • Look 45 / 50

I tend to shy away from burnt oranges, but this look modernizes the color story by producing a unique shape to the low-rise skirt. Through the framed draping seen in the skirt, Zimmermann brings depth and volume to fashion.

I am forever in awe of the Zimmermann sisters: their pieces are vastly unique. In the sea of resort-inspired collections, Zimmermann designs will always stand out.
