Gimaguas, Paloma Wool, and the Joy of Spanish Design

I grew up between Madrid and California, and (no shade to the golden state) my sense of style and my entire wardrobe was born, built and matured in Spain. When I moved to California for college I observed the style around me and came to understand that Spanish style stands out through its harmony of sophistication and fun.

In Madrid, popping color and experimental fabrics are integrated into every coffee-date, grocery-run, walk-to-the-park outfit across the city. Fashion is refined but bold, and this intentional balance sits behind some of my all-time favorite designers.

In case you haven’t met her, Gimaguas is the Spanish brand best known for their bright colors and patterns using unique fabrics (sourced sustainably)! Gimaguas is best described as the home for perfect pieces that can be styled up for city life and styled down for beach weeks.

In their most recent line, Gimaguas showed us their ability to design with extreme awareness of current trends while maintaining their true Spanish roots. The brand boasts modern fabrics integrated into classic spanish silhouettes. We find knee-length skirts being reimagined through sexy-sheer white wool. Classic button-up structures are given a 3 dimensional spin using depth-creating linen. A classic tank top is tye-dyed into a new era. All in all, the Gimaguas look emanates that of timeless confidence, embellished in bright colors.

Paloma Wool is Gimaguas’ sophisticated sister, but still carries the Spanish fun. Paloma’s new collection rides on the ever-relevant balletcore trend, while focusing on quality of design and fabrics. This year they’ve given us soft and timeless looks through the integration of minimalist design with airy colors and fabrics. We find leg warmers, thigh-length sweaters and headscarves that have been reimagined through sustainable wools and sheer fabrics, empowering us all to take a little more of a risk.

My love for Spanish design grows stronger with every line that these brands release, as they manage to create timeless, relevant and daring pieces all in one collection.
